The Validation Breakthrough

Naomi Feil, M.S.W., A.C.S.W., The Validation Breakthrough – Simple Techniques for Communicating with People with Alzheimer’s-Type Dementia, Health Professionals Press, Baltimore, Sydney, London. Though this book focuses on Alzheimer’s-Type Dementia, the principles for communication are valid and useful for relationships in general. This is a highly recommended core resource expecially for caregivers and pastoral care providers.

Christopher Myers, Wings, Scholastic Inc., New York, NY. Beautifully illustrated story of a modern day Ikarus, challenges stigma and offers the opportunity to view differences as gifts. This is a recommnded core resource for Meetings, and for friends and family of people with challenges.

The Moon in the Water

Kathy J. Phillips, The Moon in the Water – Relections on an Aging Parent, 2008, Vanderbilt University Press, Nashville, Tennessee. A first person exploration of compassionate caregiving through a spiritual lens. This is a recommended resource especially for childrenwho are caring for aging parents.
